She’s gone…
As feared, by order of the government, the beautiful and moving mural by Lapiztola, on the side of Museo Belber Jimenez, has been erased.
I miss her, too. Color and culture, indeed, seem to be unwelcome.

The human eye. a powerful camera , captured by your amazing pics. will always remain in the human mind ; so not gone entirely ! 🙂
Thanks, Archie. I pass by that wall almost everyday, and still feel the mural’s absence.
This is just too sad. Our upcoming trip to Oaxaca may be our last.
Oh, I hope it won’t be your last. Oaxaca remains beautiful and welcoming, with the possibility of the unexpected around every corner.
I wonder what agency I could complain to about my distress, as a frequent tourist to Mexico, for this loss of the recent beautiful free offerings of gorgeous wall paintings in Oaxaca.???
I don’t know, Kay… perhaps Oaxaca’s Secretaría de Turismo. Btw, the removal seems to be pretty selective. Hmmm…
Shameful. Sadly, I’ve never been to Oaxaca – but I am familiar, through studies, with the development of the arts and its history. I don’t see the point of erasure of such a lovely piece, except to exert power over expression. What horrible people order such things to be done?
There seems to be a move by some to sanitize and Disney-fy the historic district. They don’t seem to understand that people and art are part and parcel of what makes Oaxaca so special.
It is very sad……. I can only hope that there is a upheaval of protest, via twice as many wall art creations occurring, as people protest their lost venue of expression.
The ‘graffiti’ of Oaxaca should be celebrated, not covered up! It is a beautiful expression of the people and their thoughts.
I agree! We can only hope…
It’s such a shame to see a beautiful piece of artwork be removed by the government. I remember seeing it when I went to Oaxaca in July to visit some family.
Yes, in the 4+ months it was there, it had already become a landmark and it made waiting for the bus on that busy corner a much more pleasurable experience.
