In the first chapter of The Labyrinth of Solitude, Octavio Paz reflects on the face of an old man… “features are seen as a face, and later as a mask, a meaning, a history.”
Mural seen on Calle de Narciso Mendoza in Barrio de Jalatlaco.
And John Dalberg-Acton wrote, “History is not a burden on the memory but an illumination of the soul.”
This is so beautiful!
I just re-read Piedra del Sol; my copy has Spanish on one side and English on the facing page. It’s helped me learn more beautiful Spanish.
I love this mural. Wish I was there a lot!!
Thanks for all your sharings, as usual!
Where did you find this edition? I am learning Spanish, for the love of language, and especially the Mexican culture. Even as an outsider, how can one begin to understand a culture without knowing at least some of the language (music, & art)?
Fabulous! So love the mural traditions of Mexico.
Me, too!
