And, while we are on the topic of dining well in Oaxaca, we are all looking forward to the long delayed, but eagerly anticipated, Tercer Encuentro de Cocineras Tradicionales de Oaxaca (3rd Gathering of Traditional Oaxacan Cooks) to take place September 19-22, 2019 at the Centro Cultural y De Convenciones Oaxaca (note venue change). According to reports, there will be 60 traditional women cooks, 15 people making traditional beverages, 6 pastry chefs, and 6 makers of iced desserts.
Hope there were plenty of spare tortillas for those overflowing seafood tostadas at Marco Polo. Never seen such a high ratio of seafood to tostada.
I didn’t think I could eat them all, but I did. However, I had to use a fork!
Shannon, This is the event I was hoping would materialize in April and the main reason I made reservations to be in Oaxaca during April. I so want to be there for this, but can’t make it this month. My visit was still amazingly wonderful! Now, I will enjoy it vicariously through your blogs. Thank you so much for your beautiful coverage of all things Oaxacan. I hope to return before too long!
Francie, you were not alone! We were all anticipating that it would happen in April. The new date was only officially announced about a month ago. Such is life in Oaxaca! Thanks for continuing to read and come back soon.
Yes, I saw it on their Facebook page, which you had, months ago, alerted me to. I will be looking forward to the 2020 gathering now, but hope to get back down there before a whole year goes by!
How sorry I am that we will not arrive in time for this delicious looking event. You will have to eat our share!
I need to put the encuentro de cocineras tradicionales on my calendar and plan for next year. I am dying to get back to Oaxaca and more so to try some new food and pick up a new recipe. Cheers!
