I returned to Casita Colibrí early Friday morning, weary from Aeromexico’s red eye from San Francisco. After emptying the suitcases, bed beckoned! No need to drag myself to the market, as neighbor and gal pal, K, welcomed me home with a delicious dinner. Saturday, was spent putting things away, tending to the garden, and raiding the freezer for a tamal to go along with leftover salad from the night before. However by Sunday I was recovered enough to accompany K on her weekly pilgrimage to market day in Tlacolula de Matamoros.

A stop in the Capilla del Señor de Tlacolula of the Parroquia de la Virgen de la Asunción for a reminder from Señor de la Paciencia (Lord of Patience).

The bell tower of the Parroquia de la Virgen de la Asuncón, Tlacolula de Matamoros. It always pays to look up.

What better way to get back into the swing of things in Oaxaca. Chicken soup for this soul! Gracias a mi amiga.
Welcome home!
Gracias. It’s good to be back!
love your pics as always
¡Muchisimas gracias Connie. And I loved the pics from your birthday party!!!
I loved that market. Beautiful photos as usual.
One of the oldest in mesoamerica!
how do you get to market. Do you take the bus? From the main bus terminal? Or a Collectivo? From Where? I would like to go when we R in Oaxaca in July
welcome home…..
The bus and collectivos come up the Pereferico from the Abastos area. It’s easiest to catch them at the VW/Telcel corner across from the baseball stadium. Very frequent/ I think the green and white buses are the most comfortable (you might have to stand on Sundays). There is also a shopping shuttle that runs from Teotitlan to Tlacolula on Sundays — a fun way to maximize your time east of the city.
Bev, Christine is correct. Our plan had been to take a taxi to the collectivo/bus stop at the VW/Telcel corner. However, we were SO comfortable in the taxi, we decided to have him drive us all the way to Tlacolula. We then took the Teotitlán bus to Teotilán to visit friends. We left loaded with stuff and elected to take a taxi back to the city from Teotitlán. However, it is also possible to catch a colectivo or bus from the crucero.
Christine, thanks for answering Bev. I’m still in catch up mode. 😉
Shannon — I knew that!!! :))
¡Jejeje! 🙂
