Looking forward to tomorrow’s return to Oaxaca, though not sure what I will find. So, in preparation, a little street art, apropos of nothing…
… and everything.

You will find a very beautiful new mural on the west wall of Museo Bilber. Safe travels. I am SO happy to be back after two months and two weeks away.
Thanks for the heads up on the new mural in my ‘hood. It’s fabulous! I’m glad to be back, too, 😉
Hi, Shannon — I enjoy your blog and our personal stories of moving to MX have several parallels. I landed in San Miguel. My book group is planning a trip to Oaxaca this fall, and would like to read an interesting novel, memoir, or collection of stories based in Oaxaca (in part or in full). What might you recommend we read prior to our visit? Thank you!
Example: Last year we read Kathryn Blair’s “In the Shadow of the Angel” and CM Mayo’s “The Last Prince of the Mexican Empire” before spending five days in DF and meeting both authors.
Hi Maia, a few suggestions… Oaxaca Journal by Oliver Sacks; Madre: Perilous Journeys with a Spanish Noun by Liza Bakewell; A Perfect Red: Empire, Espionage, and the Quest for the Color of Desire by Amy Butler Greenfield, and Santo Gordo, by first time novelist, Charles Kerns. Re the latter, Chuck has been a longtime visitor to Oaxaca, and while the book may not be of the literary quality of Oliver Sacks, he definitely captures the “feel” of Oaxaca. Enjoy!
