In front of Preciosa Sangre de Cristo Templo on Viernes Santo (Good Friday), waiting for the Procesión del Silencio (Procession of Silence) to set off up the Álcala, down Garcia Vigil, and back up the Álcala to Sangre de Cristo.
Waiting in the wings…

Incredible, I would love to be there for Easter some time! Almost makes me
want to be Catholic again
Now Louise, don’t get too carried away! Fyi, Lan is here and we have been having a blast.
So is Good Friday the last public day of observance? How about Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday?
On Sat. evening there is the night of Fire and Water — procession with candles, 2-hour mass, blessing of water, and halfway through the mass the riotious ringing of church bells. I’ve always been too exhausted from the week’s activities to attend, but I’ve definitely heard the bells! At night on Easter Sunday, Carmen Alto does a procession through the streets, returns to the church, Plume Dancers perform in the courtyard, and there is a castillo and fireworks. Will probably post some video of it next week.
PHEW!!!! I’m exhausted! It is definitely on the calender for next year.
last week you briefly mentioned something about JELLO MOLDS in the Zocalo! What’s that?
Yep, jello molded to look like an ear of corn in a husk, watermelon, and more. Unfortunately, there was so much going on that I didn’t photograph any of them — big oversight! Definitely will be on the lookout for them next year.
