After a twelve year wait, my Pachypodium lamerei has bloomed! Though not a palm, you may know it as a Madagascar Palm.
First thing every morning, while the coffee is brewing, I go up on the rooftop to wish my plants a “buenos días” and check to see if the water heater pilot is still lit — but I digress.
Two and a half weeks ago my Pachypodium lamerei surprised me with its first ever flower.
And the blooms keep coming. I think it likes its new home!
Beautiful florals. 😀 😀
Thank you! I was so excited to see it finally bloom.
Hello, I’ve been following your great blog from Saskatchewan. What a flower! Congratulations
Thank you for reading. The flowers were quite a surprise!
This summer our night blooming cereus gave us 5 blossoms! One night we had 2 blossoms at once-the sweet smell was overwhelming. All this joy from a sickly plant I rescued from the NY Botanical garden’s clearance table.
Your green thumb at work!
Such Gigantic beauty !
Yes! However, I think it’s getting too gigantic for the pot and I haven’t a clue how to transplant it without breaking the pot and coming away without multiple wounds from its nasty spines.
So very beautiful! Hope it doesn’t take another 12 years until it blooms next time. Thank you for sharing.
A friend informs me that now that it has bloomed, it will sent out branches from the top and they may eventually flower. Maybe it’s mature enough for the blooming process to speed up!
Buenos Dias! Love your photos especially the flowers and trees. In your opinion, when is the best time to visit Oaxaca for viewing beautiful flowers and avoiding rainy season? I’ve been in October but thinking maybe February or March?

The rainy season is one of the best times to visit the city. The temperatures are modrate and the valleys are so green. If it rains, it is usually only for an hour or two in the evening or during the night.
