Opening the door onto my terrace this morning, I was greeted with more pitahaya flowers glowing in the morning light. In the background, rain drops glistened on unripened fruit, as their dry spent flowers continued to cling to the fruit of their late night labor.Behind the chain link fence, one of my ripe Dragon Fruit is so close and yet so far.
However, there is more to come; blossoms preparing to burst open — for just one night.
From tenacious roots and branches of my previous post to fleeting flowers to long ripening fruit; such is the life of the pitahaya.
Stages of life

Darling Shannon, Drivers market
across the street sell the fruit for
$14.99 a lb. You said it is not ripe
yet & they are selling them like that .
Love Ya,
Louise
Louise, You mean they are selling them green? Good grief, have they no shame?!!! I’ve got so many in various stages, that I think I’ll be giving them away for months to come!
Now in the previous post it looked like you severed a pretty “main” root.
Doesn’t seem to have affected the plant at all! Beautiful flowers. Enjoy
We are thinking about heading south for DOD. Making a decision today. will keep you posted. Needing a “little dose” of Oaxaca
The “main” root that was severed was only for one of 5 plants in that particular planter box AND there are 5 more planter boxes, each with 4-6 plants. All came from 4 original stalks stuck in a pot 3 1/2 years ago! Hope you decide to come down for DOD. When you know, let me know. 😉
Nice photos, especially #3. I’ll have to try one of these if they ever grow on your side of the fence!
Today, I counted 5 pitayas in varying stages of development on the “other” side of the fence. However, never fear, there are at least 3 times that many on my side of the fence!
