You appear to have been across the street and very near to my apartment on Independencia. You got some very nice photos. And yes, it was very moving!
Thank you. I love living in this neighborhood, this state, and this country.
Shannon,
Wow! Oaxaca really knows how do political protest. I believe I will be back soon. My political sensibilities will not allow me to stay here in Sheepistan much longer.
Culture shock for me every time I go to el norte. At least here, there are no illusions, not to mention, la vida es mejor.
Let us hope this is the start of something big!
Who knows??? As always, it is a question of leadership… Knowing what to do next.
Thanks for sharing, Shannon. I’ve wanted to see how this march went. Sounds like it’s happening all over Mexico. Change never comes without cost.
Who knows where it will lead… At least here (as opposed to the USA), most have no illusions.
Thank you Shannon for this very touching post. As permanent Mexican residents but non-Mexican citizens it’s very frustrating to be unable to protest this massacre unless we are willing to risk deportation. We will be wearing black Thursday on Mexico’s Revolution Day and will be picking up our 43 pins tomorrow. Donita and John
Yes, I will be wearing black, too. However, not aware of the 43 pins. What kind of pins?
I posted this on our facebook site… shades of 2006…
¡Muchisimas gracias! Let me know when you are next in town.
I’ll be there in late January… I’ve got a group of men that will be working with me on a ranch project and a group of doctors for a few of the villages I also work in… see you then…
Very moving, there’s still not much going on in the UK but finally yesterday I found out that my sister’s university did a protest a few days ago!
After almost 2 months, word is FINALLY getting out. Hope it has spread across the pond, at long last!
Nothing happened in Birmingham for 20th November, the university Mexican Society didn’t organise anything under the excuse of being an apolitical organisation and I must say I was a little ashamed. This isn’t politics, this is a nation in mourning.
But the headlines this morning are ALL internal affairs, not even Syria makes the headlines today on BBC.
Did you hear about this? http://www.proceso.com.mx/?p=389503
Yes I did and I tried to go! I’d previously booked some days off work to go to London to see a friend so it would have been a happy coincidence.
It was set for 5pm outside the embassy and when I passed by and they were setting up the barriers my meeting with my friend was at 4pm and she was running late so in the end I couldn’t go.
The pictures in the article are in daylight so it must have been about 3pm, and they look like they were in Parliament Square which was far away from where I was meeting my friend, and it wasn’t advertised on the site I was following for this demonstration. The Universityof Birmingham Mexican Society finally agreed to make a video, so I’ll post you a link if they do it!
