He had words. I don’t.
“Do we really want to travel in hermetically sealed popemobiles through the rural provinces of France, Mexico and the Far East, eating only in Hard Rock Cafes and McDonalds? Or do we want to eat without fear, tearing into the local stew, the humble taqueria’s mystery meat, the sincerely offered gift of a lightly grilled fish head? I know what I want. I want it all. I want to try everything once.” ― Anthony Bourdain, Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly
I will miss your intelligence, honesty, passion, and respect for cultures different from your own. Thank you. Rest in peace, Anthony Bourdain.
Same Sentiments here Shannon. Bourdain was inspirational on many levels, travel, cuisine et al. He was also quite humble
His humanity came through so clearly.
I’m just heart broken over Tony. I loved all his shows. I loved his two shows on Cuba. I remember that he made two interesting points about Cuba. On the first show I watched, while eating in an outdoor lunch counter, he commented that he hadn’t seen any police at all since he had arrived. And on the second show, he mentioned that the Cuban people were really intelligent and un-superficial, honest and open—this was at a local kids baseball game where the whole community turned out with food and drinks.
Wish he was still with us. Rest in Peace, Anthony.

CNN International doesn’t broadcast Parts Unknown here, so I had Kyle DVR the Cuba episodes. I remember them well.

Thank you , Shannon for this memory and quote. No words . .
I think I will spend the rest of the day watching my “No Reservations” DVDs.
You’ve found a perfect quote. Thank you.
Thanks, Alana. I was briefly cheered by the life and aromas and warm greetings and banter at Mercado Benito Juárez late this morning. It’s those experiences he taught us to treasure.
